SINGING LESSON 1: How to Breathe Properly When Singing
The first in the series is about breathing and how the process differs slightly to when we’re breathing day to day. I explain a little bit about how breathing works in the body and why singers and teachers alike are talking about the muscle in the body called the diaphragm. If you’re interested to know what its role is in how we sing, simply click to have a watch.
At the end of the video are a couple of practise tasks to help you develop proper breathing habits and work on getting the most out of each breath during songs. Give it a go and leave a comment below to let me know how you’re getting on or if you have any questions.

Great video! I learnt a few things though I’m not really a singer. Nice yellow fingernails too ;)
Oh I just love this, Kim! I’m so excited to learn more!

Love your video + post Kimberley! I’m no singer (ok, except in the car) and these tips are super helpful. You’re really engaging on video.
And I’m slightly obsessed with your (fishtail?) hair braid that you’re sporting in the intro to your video…love! :)
As a singer, I think this information is very useful. I really wish someone had explained breathing in such a concise way to me when I first started singing. I was confused for a long time between the teachers who told me to push out my stomach and those who just told me to expand my ribs.
this is a really useful video to watch before I sing because then I could warm up breathing then sing at the same time.
I love your video! I’m looking forward to your future tutorials, too!
